Advanced Blogging

A blog is much easier to read when it is scannable. Lewis Bostock first introduced our staff to this 2 years ago and it has been fun encouraging our students to do this, even if I have to run a competition to make it happen!

Embedding a slideshow looks so much nicer than screenshots or links in a blog post so there a a couple of ways of doing this depending on whether you use a laptop or an iPad which most of our students do.

After reading blogs with links to YouTube clips added to them it seemed logical to teach our students to embed the films they make after publishing to YouTube.

I am an English teacher of year 9-13 students at Whangaparaoa College. I enjoy incorporating the use of technology in the classroom and researching effective ways of engaging students. In 2012 our school introduced compulsory BYOD for year 9 and I have enjoyed this challenge. I am an advocate of Project Based Learning and plan to increase my use of this teaching style. I am also a musician and enjoy playing in local bands. If I can include music in my teaching in some way, I do it!
